The right hand of God is writing in our land

Caribbean-born Patrick Prescod (1932-2013) studied at the Trinity College of Music in London. He returned to his native St Vincent and the Grenadines and became music director for the Education Ministry. He founded the Kingstown Chorale and Cantemus, and was awarded the OBE for his work in music. Noel G Dexter (b 1938), from Jamaica, who wrote the tune for these words, studied at the University of the West Indies and became director of music there. He co-authored Mango Time, a collection of Jamaican folk songs. He has served as co-ordinator of the Church Music Programme for the Caribbean Council of Churches. The tune is arranged by Carlton (Sam) Young (b.1926). A Methodist, he has taught music in Europe and in the USA and has contributed much to the music of the United Methodist Church and the Church at large, and written widely about church music. He is a past President and a Fellow of the Hymn Society in the US and Canada.
