As the deer longs for running streams

California-based Bob Hurd (b.1950), who paraphrased the two conjoined psalms and wrote the musical setting, was one of the many who responded to the call of the Second Vatican Council for material in the vernacular. He is a teacher, composer and liturgist in various pastoral and academic contexts. One of his projects was to edit a book of songs on the care of creation and its peoples, based on Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’. It provides for verses to be sung by a cantor with a recurring refrain for the congregation. Craig Kingsbury (b. 1952), the arranger, holds a degree in composition from the University of Southern California. He worked for many years in the Los Angeles area as a choral conductor, musical arranger and singer, and spent two years in Europe singing opera and oratorio.
